About Rose Fortune:
Born in 1774, her family were Black Loyalists who came from the United States to Nova Scotia as a result of the American Revolutionary War in the hopes of receiving promised land and opportunities. Rose was a brilliant and successful entrepreneur who first started her business as a baggage carrier, and later created a wake up service for people staring near the wharf so they knew when ships would arrive, and when curfew was. Her business, later named Lewis Transfer, continued to grow for more than 100 years and the wooden wheelbarrows turned into a fleet of horse-drawn wagons. Her legacy of entrepreneurship and perseverance continue to inspire people to work hard and dream big!
